I love this restaurant. It's one of my top 5. There are many Mexican food places where I enjoy one or two items on the menu but I literally love all the menu items at Celias. My two favorite are the Cancun platter (delicious chicken, shrimp, and crab smothered in white wine sauce with mushrooms) and the chicken enchiladas, which are so cheesy good.

Recently I came home from the hospital and all I wanted was Celias. We arrived fifteen minutes before closing and though I could tell it wasn't the best timing, they were still willing to serve me and did so graciously. I love them. Like L-O-V-E them.

I've been going to Celia's for many years. So, giving this place 2 stars is not easy. Usually, we sit in the dinning area and have great service. We have two favorite waiters that take good care of us.

However, last night my friends and I sat in the bar area. It was busy as usual but many tables only had 2-3 people; ours was 4. Our waiter was awful. He rushed us and never brought us the chips and salsa and guacamole that we ordered until we reminded him 3 times. Two of us ordered the soup. One of us got it 10 minutes after the other and the latter bowl had minimal chicken (or any of the fixings for tortilla soup) and was simply broth. I was very disappointed. The waiter was not attentive and never once did he check on us to see how we were doing. Which makes him look badly considering that all his other colleagues who have waited for me at Celia's have been great.

I know this is a singular situation, but definitely makes it harder to go back.

I really want to like Celia's. It's old school, sure, that's fine.
But dirty is not a virtue. I can get past the décor and other flaws, but you need to clean.

And really, American cheese on an enchilada? Are you serious?

I've been coming here occasionally for the last 60 years or so. It was never my first choice (chronologically: Tia Maria's on Bayview Street, Gonzales' Hacienda on 2nd St, Pancho Villa's in Fairfax; RIP all) but Cecilia's was always a good fall back. Since Pancho's closed recently we've been to Cecilia's a several times. All but one  time, we've had to send food back because it wasn't hot. Some of it was positively lukewarm. Other than that, Cecilia's still has good food (of course, I LOVE Mexican food, so that bar is set pretty low) We really like to have margaritas, and Mexican restaurants with full liquor licenses seem to be few and far between. Cold food is nearly unforgivable, especially when it happens repeatedly. We'll keep trying, since we seem to be out of options within a reasonable distance from home.
